CONVERSATIONS WITH COLEMAN
NEW ARTIST IN THE WINDY CITY || CHICAGO
Whats up yall?! Mike here…
My first blog post on the internets, hoping to make a good habit of pushing out some good content from here on out. Been dabbling here and there with the idea of some podcast ideas, thinking about maybe an “interview style” or something similar…let me know what you guys think! Anyway..I figured I’d jump on here as I’ve got some big news to share with you guys, I made the leap from Boston, where I started the first 35 years of my life living, and moved to Chicago with my wife and our young son. We got here just after St. Paddy’s day and hit the ground running (literally) with getting settled in our new space and got straight to work after taking about a 3 week break from tattooing. One of the longest breaks from this art form since probably covid days. It’s now mid-May and I’ve got busy attending this year’s Chicago Tattoo Convention in Rosemont, IL (which was a blast). I am now settled in my home base studio, Hidden Light Tattoo, located in the Ravenswood neighborhood. I also have been traveling quite a bit doing some guest spots, networking, and looking for some solid artists to work alongside with. I love meeting and chatting with new people, new array of clients from this area, and the hospitality of everyone out here has been phenomenal. After a much needed transition, I feel like I’m officially in this new chapter of my craft and artistry, I’m feeling motivated as hell, and I’m ready to tackle some killer tattoos. I’ve been rebuilding my identity as a solo artist since closing the doors to my own studio back in Boston. I loved being a shop owner and having a place to call my own but talk to any other shop owners and they’ll tell you that there’s a lot of different hats that need to be worn. There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes things to concern yourself with and sometimes that pulls away from the focus of growing and elevating your work. Now that I’m in this solo-traveling-artist mode trying to find my way through the mid-west its been a lot of fun hanging with some new people and creating new artwork. With all that being said, tell a friend to tell a friend that I’m out here tattooing, catch me doing some guest spots, and visiting a city near you tattooing at your local tattoo convention!
